ConvertKit vs GetResponse (2026):
Will a Free Plan Last Until You Have Subscribers?

Choose your next step before paying

If you have read one post saying start with ConvertKit and another saying something else, and you are not sure whether a free plan will last until you have real subscribers, this page is for you. It compares Kit (ConvertKit) and GetResponse on what their free plans actually allow, what you pay at 1,000 subscribers, and the point where upgrading makes sense. Prices and limits are dated 22 October 2026 so you can check them against the vendor pages before you pay.

  • If you mainly send a newsletter: start on Kit Free. It costs $0 up to 10,000 subscribers and includes unlimited broadcasts, landing pages and forms (checked 22 October 2026).
  • If you need webinars or funnels this month: GetResponse bundles more tools, but sales funnels and abandoned cart recovery only start on Marketer at $59/mo at 1,000 subscribers (checked 22 October 2026).
  • Before you pay: check the free-plan limit that applies to you: Kit's subscriber cap or GetResponse's 1,000 unique landing-page visitors a month and 10-person webinar cap (checked 22 October 2026).

Choose by the emails and workflows you need

Use the same list size, billing period and required job for both quotes. Kit is the current name for ConvertKit. A large free subscriber allowance does not establish that a particular automation is included.

Newsletter and creator sequences

Shortlist Kit if its forms, broadcasts and sequences fit your publishing workflow. Check the exact tier for your automation before choosing a subscription.

Funnels, ecommerce or webinars

Shortlist GetResponse when those tools solve a current job. Its Starter, Marketer and Creator tiers have different automation and selling features; check the required tier and your region’s quote.

You want another newsletter option

Compare the invoice, not the rounded monthly equivalent

Kit billing checked November 1, 2026, up to 1,000 subscribers: Creator is $39 per month paid monthly or $390 billed yearly. The advertised $33 monthly equivalent is rounded and is not a $33 monthly payment. Twelve $39 payments total $468: the annual commitment saves $78 over that full year, before taxes or extras.

Pro’s monthly starting price is $79. Its current annual promotion shows $593 for the first year; the displayed $50 equivalent is not monthly billing. Confirm the full renewal charge at checkout. Sources: Kit’s plan guide (opens in a new tab) and Kit pricing (opens in a new tab).

GetResponse quote check: use your list size and currency on GetResponse’s current pricing page (opens in a new tab). Starter lists one custom automation workflow; Marketer lists unlimited workflows; Creator adds webinars. A feature on a higher tier is not included merely because the brand offers it. The original GetResponse price snapshots below retain their October 22 date.

Try a three-month versus twelve-month commitment

Example at the checked Kit Creator rate: three monthly payments total $117, whereas annual billing charges $390 upfront for a year. At twelve unchanged monthly payments, the total is $468. Annual billing costs less for that full year; it requires $273 more cash than three monthly payments if you are only budgeting for the first three months. This is a cash comparison, not a refund entitlement or a forecast of how long you will stay.

Compare your second quote: add any setup, overlap, required add-ons and taxes to both options. A fictional $25/month alternative plus $100 setup costs $175 for three months; with another $50 of overlap it costs $225. Compare those totals only after both plans pass your required workflow.

Before moving a list, preserve consent and suppressed contacts, and check imports, automations and cancellation terms. If the current service works, a lower headline price alone does not justify switching. Use the broader email-software decision paths if neither shortlist fits.

How this page was put together. Every price and limit comes from Kit's and GetResponse's own pricing pages and help centres, checked 22 October 2026, so you can verify it yourself. This is a research-based comparison of what each vendor publishes, not a personal endorsement. Where a plan is a poor fit for a small budget, the page says so. We earn a commission if you buy through our links, which is why nothing here is ordered by payout.

Overview: ConvertKit vs GetResponse

ConvertKit (now branded Kit) is built around email for creators: tags, segments and visual automations. GetResponse bundles email with landing pages, funnels and webinars. If your budget is tight, the practical questions are what the free plan allows, what the first paid tier costs at your list size, and which limit will tell you it is time to upgrade. This page answers those first.

ConvertKit vs GetResponse: Which Is Best for You?

ConvertKit

Choose ConvertKit for simple creator email

Kit suits creators, bloggers and small businesses who mainly send a newsletter and want tagging and segments without extra modules. Skip it if you need webinars or sales funnels built in. Kit Free costs $0 and covers up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited broadcasts, landing pages and forms, so you can grow a list before paying. Creator is $39/month paid monthly or $390 billed yearly at up to 1,000 subscribers and adds unlimited visual automations, sequences and no Kit branding (billing checked November 1, 2026). Pro starts at $79/month paid monthly. The current annual promotion charges $593 for the first year; confirm the full renewal charge before choosing annual billing (billing checked November 1, 2026).

GetResponse

Choose GetResponse for an all-in-one toolkit

GetResponse suits marketers and growing businesses that want email plus landing pages and one automation workflow on Starter, with funnels, abandoned cart recovery and advanced segmentation on Marketer. Skip it if you only send simple broadcasts, because the extra tools are not on the cheapest tier. The free account is limited: 1,000 unique landing page visitors a month, webinar recordings and on-demand webinars capped at 10 people including you and presenters, a GetResponse badge on every message, and free accounts unused for 90 days can be disabled (checked 22 October 2026). Starter is $19/mo at 1,000 subscribers; Marketer is $59/mo at 1,000 subscribers (checked 22 October 2026).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ConvertKit the same as Kit?

Yes. ConvertKit rebranded as Kit; it is the same email marketing platform for creators. We use the familiar ConvertKit name on this page.

Which is easier to use?

In our own assessment, Kit's email-only focus makes it quicker to learn, while GetResponse asks you to learn more tools because it includes more of them. That is a judgement from the features each vendor publishes, not a survey of users, so weigh it against the tools you actually plan to use.

Does either platform offer a free plan?

Both have a free entry point, but they are not equal: Kit's Free plan runs to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited broadcasts, landing pages and forms, while GetResponse's free account is capped at 1,000 unique landing-page visitors a month and adds its badge to every message (checked 22 October 2026). Limits change from time to time, so check the vendor pages before signing up.

Which is better for affiliate marketing?

Both can send newsletters and automated sequences that promote affiliate offers, but the rules differ. Kit asks for roughly 70–80% of your emails to be about your own work and bans get-rich-quick offers; GetResponse bans make-money-fast schemes (checked 22 October 2026). Read the full policy for whichever you pick before you start.
